Student Success

  • UTEP is recognized by NSF and NASA as one of 6 Model Institutions for Excellence (1995-2007) for our success in creating educational opportunities for non-traditional students
  • The National Survey of Student Engagement (2005) identified UTEP as one of 20 colleges and universities that is “unusually effective in promoting student success.”
  • UTEP’s Quality Enhancement Plan (2006) “Student Success in the Middle Years” was accepted by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools in a full 10-year re-accreditation

Research

  • Nearly 300 faculty and staff members engaged in research and sponsored projects last year
  • A record of 512 proposals were submitted, resulting in $77 million in new funding
  • Much of the research funding supports students giving them experiences that makes them competitive
    • More than 40% of students graduating in 2005-2006 with BS degrees engaged in research, scholarly or creative projects with UTEP faculty
    • By Fall 2008, more than 43% of those students had enrolled in UTEP graduate programs

Vision

  • Student Success + National Research University = Access & Excellence in Teaching & Research
