The University of Texas at El Paso School of Nursing (UTEP-SON), which joined the UTEP family in 1976, has grown into a nationally recognized school with bachelor’s and master’s programs that reach more than 560 students each year. The school annually graduates more than 130 students and at least half of these begin their nursing careers in El Paso.
The school is at the forefront of nursing education by offering innovative programs enhanced by simulation and other instructional technology and valuable clinical experience. Comprehensive research and community projects address the regional community’s needs and help prepare strong and caring leaders in the ever-growing health care field.
The school earned top marks in Spring 2008 from the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine, ranking third in the nation for awarding nursing degrees to Hispanics. The school is home to the fourth largest undergraduate program in Texas and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its excellence in educating nursing faculty. Both graduate and undergraduate nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and UTEP is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
