The University of Texas at El Paso’s Teachers for a New Era (TNE) program is engaged in the renewal of teacher preparation aimed at improving educational opportunities for students across the region. UTEP’s TNE is built on a long-standing partnership with area school districts and the El Paso Community College (EPCC). UTEP is one of eleven TNE institutions participating in the initiative, which is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York with additional support from the Annenberg and Ford Foundations.
This ambitious teacher education renewal initiative is directed by the Office of the Provost and overseen by an executive committee comprised of the Deans of Education, Liberal Arts, and Science. The work of TNE is conducted by faculty and staff from the University, EPCC, and regional school districts.
Three design principles serve as the foundation of the TNE initiative:
* Decisions driven by evidence
* Expanded engagement of arts and science faculty in teacher preparation
* Further development of teaching as an academically taught clinical profession
UTEP appreciates the opportunity Teachers for a New Era provides to partner with other educational institutions and organizations throughout our region to strengthen and sustain efforts to enhance teacher preparation.
