MAJOR IN CHICANA/O STUDIES

Students wishing to major in Chicana/o Studies must complete the following:

27 semester hours of academic Core Courses as follows:

  • 3 CHIC 3311 (It is recommended that this course be taken first.)
  • 3 PHIL 2313; SOCI 2358, SOCI 2359; SPAN 3320, SPAN 3330; ARTH 3308; CHIC 4301
  • 3 ENGL 3374; THEA 3335,THEA 4340 (when topic is appropriate)
  • 3 ENGL 3310
  • 3 HIST 3309
  • 3 POLS 4313, POLS 4315
  • 3 CHIC 3302 or CHIC 3304
  • 6 CHIC 3301 (WS 3301), CHIC 3303, CHIC 3339, CHIC 4250, CHIC 4301, CHIC 4306, CHIC 4350, CHIC 4450; BED 4340; HIST 3327, HIST 3328, HIST 3342, HIST 3350, HIST 3390; PHIL 4352; POLS 4330, POLS 4318; SOWK 3326; SPAN 3325, SPAN 4372

Proficiency in Spanish must be established by completing SPAN 2302 or 2304 or being placed into a third year course. 

A term paper, with a minimum grade of "B," in a Chicana/o Studies (upper-division level, 3300-4300) course must be on file in the program's office.
