Core Curriculum    

   Now that you've decided on a major in communication, it's time to select which field you would like to pursue. Below is a listing of courses you will need to take to complete the sequence you're interested in, and this is after you've completed both the University and the Liberal Arts core curriculums.

   Before embarking on the classes specific to your major, there are core classes that the Communication Department requires you to take. According to Dr. Frank G. PĂ©rez, chair of the department, the core courses also include a research methods class because students need to understand application, theory, and research-based data to succeed in the communication field. 


Communication Core Courses

 

COMM 1370 Introduction to Communication Studies
 

This is an introduction to the various fields of communication. 

COMM 3371 Communication Theory and Analysis
 

This class covers various communication theory that apply to all communication disciplines, ranging from intrapersonal communication to mass communication.

 Methods of Research in Communication
 

Here, you will address various social science methodologies used to conduct research in the field of communication
