This Fall 2009 Semester, Homecoming events included recognition of alumni that exemplify the success and quality of UTEP. In the College of Science, two Golden Nuggets and one Distinguished Alumnus were from Geology. 2009 Golden Nugget awardees were Dr. Jim Handschy – Global Chief Geologist at ConocoPhillips, and Mr. Larry R. Wollschlager – President of Wolf Energy. 2009 UTEP Distinguished Alumnus was Mr. Vernon G. Hunt (honored posthumously) – independent geology consultant, who with his wife, endowed the Department of Geology with the Vernon G. and Joy Hunt Scholarship Fund. The homecoming functions in Geology related to these outstanding alumni were very well attended and I’d like to thank everyone who participated. Congratulations to all award recipients…you make this department proud! GO MINERS!!!
