Vision:

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology will be nationally recognized for excellence in the social sciences by engaging in the discovery and application of knowledge about behavior and the social and cultural processes that underlie it, with a special focus on the U.S.-Mexico borderlands.

Missions:

The Missions of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology are to offer excellent BA programs in Sociology and Anthropology that prepare students for applied social science jobs and graduate school, an excellent MA program in Sociology that prepares students for advanced applied social research and entry into Ph.D. programs, and nationally recognized research in border-oriented sociology and anthropology.  The Department will be a leader in and significant contributor to University-wide border research.
