Women’s Studies Mission Statement
The mission of the Women’s Studies Program is to provide the interdisciplinary study of women's experiences, emphasizing historical, contemporary, and future issues concerning women and men; to foster the development of gender equality in scholarship and the workplace; to help students better understand how knowledge, discourse, and values take different forms depending on multiple inequalities, especially for women of color and women on the US – Mexico border.
Vision Statement
The vision of the Women's Studies Program is to gain international recognition as a primary source of scholarship and information regarding gender issues on the US-Mexico border; to be a primary information source to the University on gender and diversity; and to be accessible to all students.
1) Expand the program to the university level, i.e. have the WS minor and graduate certificate available to students in all colleges;
2) Develop a research component focusing on US-Mexico gender issues;
3) Heighten community awareness and visibility of the WS Program while simultaneously heightening awareness of gender issues in the community.
