Academies and Programs

ISS academies are not just a series of technology workshops, but consist of a carefully planned curriculum designed to prepare university instructors with effective strategies and resources for teaching. ISS offers several different academies, each one tailored to suit a specific need.

Academies include:

Hybrid/Digital Academies focus on preparing faculty and instructors for teaching online as well as integrating that online teaching back into the classroom through advanced course design techniques and a hands-on application of new teaching and learning techniques.

Technology Leadership Academies (TLA) target UTEP non-early adopters of technology in order to develop a cadre of campus leaders in the effective use of digital tools for teaching and learning.

Teaching Large Classes Academies (TLC) are designed for UTEP faculty members who will teach one or more sections of 100 students in upcoming academic years. Participants learn to adopt teaching strategies that target a rich, interactive classroom experience normally associated with small classes.

New Faculty Academies provide an opportunity for full-time faculty members who are new to UTEP to engage in a series of seminars, workshops and activities focused on teaching and learning and on setting goals for a successful career. Academies are designed to enhance teaching impact, knowledge, and effectiveness, and to provide a venue for reflection on professional goals and provide opportunities for participants to engage in UTEP’s culture.
