Outreach and Service Programs
The UTEP Department of Music offers programs designed to give opportunity to young music students to experience the camaraderie and competition involved in ensemble participation. These programs include Summer Strings, Band Festivals, and the All-State Choir Camp. Band Festivals Every spring, the UTEP Department of Music offers its Middle School/High School Concert Band Festival, featuring bands from over two dozen local schools. Over a thousand students from the El Paso and Las Cruces area are involved in this festival that includes performances in the UTEP Recital Hall. The Department of Music also offers an annual Beginning Band Festival, featuring numerous bands and hundreds of young students from the area. Drums along the Border is an opportunity for young musicians from the El Paso and Las Cruces area to experience performances by some of the finest drum and bugle corps in the country. Throughout the school year, area students can attend master classes by guest artists who visit UTEP while performing with the El Paso Wind Symphony. For more information on the marching and concert band events, contact Dr. Curtis Tredway at ctredway@utep.edu or by phone at (915) 747-5049.
