Greetings! We are pleased that you have taken time to learn about the College of Education at the University of Texas at El Paso.

The COE is continuing its proud tradition of preparing exemplary educators through undergraduate and graduate programs in three academic departments: Teacher Education, Educational Psychology & Special Services, and Educational Leadership & Foundations. The College of Education has a long and distinguished history as a first-rate institution for the preparation of professional educators. Two of our recent graduates were named Texas "Teachers of the Year." Most recently UTEP was selected as one of eleven universities in the U.S. to receive $5 million through the Carnegie Corporation′s "Teachers for a New Era" initiative. Through this project, the College of Education is building on its strong partnerships with the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Science, as well as with the K-12 community, to help to shape an emerging model for research and practice in teacher preparation for the 21st century.
Our faculty and administrators believe in the power of partnerships and have developed strong collaborations with local districts to strengthen the preparation of teachers. We continue to enhance these K-16 partnerships with local schools, integrating technology and interdisciplinary research into our field-based programs of study. Through our masters′ and doctoral programs, our graduates are prepared for key leadership roles as school administrators, teacher educators, counselors and diagnosticians. More than 45 doctoral students are enrolled in the Ed. D. Program in Educational Leadership & Foundations and a Ph.D. Program in Teaching and Learning is currently in development.
The College of Education is proud to play a role in UTEP′s impetus to achieve higher levels of excellence. Faculty and students are engaged in numerous multidisciplinary research initiatives. The College organizes an annual research summer conference as a venue for faculty and student scholarly presentations and a monthly series of dialogue sessions provide opportunities for further dissemination of scholarly research among COE faculty and students.
We have also made tremendous strides toward accomplishing our goals of refurbishing the College to create a warm, welcoming academic home for students. Computer labs and wireless infrastructure have been installed throughout the building and a snack bar at the main entrance allows students to enjoy refreshments before or after classes.
