The Clinical M.A. Program is designed to prepare students either to work in applied settings as psychological associates or professional counselors, or to continue on to clinical Ph.D. programs.
The M.A. in Clinical Psychology requires the completion of 45 credit hours, including 21 hours of required coursework, 15 hours of elective coursework, 3 hours of internship, and 6 hours of thesis. However, students may need to fulfill additional requirements if they wish to prepare for state licensure. For example, licensure as a psychological associate requires completion of additional internship hours, while licensure as a professional counselor requires completion of an extended 57-hour course of study, including coursework from the College of Education. The current programs of study for students with different career goals may be found here
, but students who wish to pursue licensure at the M.A. level should consult regularly with the Program Director and become familiar with the requirements of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
and/or the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors
to ensure that they are well prepared for their goals.
