Steps to Teacher Certification for Undergraduates

Submit an application for admission to Teacher Education after meeting the following requirements.
  • English 1311, 1312 and Communication 1301 with grades of C or better in each course.
  • Math 1320 or higher level math with a grade of C or better.
  • TASP/THEA test with passing scores in Reading 250*, Math 230*, and Writing 220*
  • Completion of 60 semester hours with a cumulative UTEP grade point average of 2.50 or better.
  • Have filed an application far Admission to Teacher Education with the Student Services Office, and included 3 letters of professional references, one of wich will be from an educator.

Student Services Forms

Admission to Teacher Education – Students must apply to the teacher education program to take most education courses and to participate in the field-based blocks (internships). Students must meet all requirements.

Appeal to the Dean – Students may submit an appeal to the dean for specific requests. Appeals are approved at the discretion of the dean.

Authorization for Course Substitution – Students may request that a course substitute for one on their degree plan; the courses must be comparable and course descriptions must be attached to the form. An advisor signature is required before being submitted to the Department Chair and Associate Dean. Substitutions are approved at the discretion of the Department Chair and/or Associate Dean.

Reinstatement Request – Students may request for reinstatement due to academic probation. Reinstatements are approved at the discretion of the Dean.
