Dr. Nicholas E. Pingitore Jr.
Nick Pingitore is an analytic and environmental geochemist whose main research thrust is a National Institutes of Health grant to study of the relationship of air quality to asthma in El Paso. Other current or recent projects include National Science Foundation support of synchrotron analysis of corals to determine site locations of the trace elements used to recreate temperature and chemical records of sea water in the recent past; and elemental analyses of air particulates, food, water, and soils in the El Paso-Juarez binational metroplex. Nick holds the rank of Professor of Geological Sciences, and is Director of UTEP's Electron Microprobe Laboratory. He has authored or co-authored some 75 scientific articles, has been project director of $8,500,000 in research funding, and has been a co-investigator in another $8,000,000 in grants.
