What are the Geosciences

From earthquakes to thunderstorms, the physical processes of the Earth and the atmosphere have always affected people. The geoscientists study the physical, chemical, and biological processes of the Earth, from its deep interior to its surface. The two main areas of geoscience are geology and geophysics. Geologists study rocks, volcanoes, rivers and fossils and data from satellites to understand the earth. Geophysicists study the same phenomena, but focus on the physics of the Earth and also include the study of earthquakes.

The department offers number of degrees for students with different interests such as:
      • How and why mountains form.
      • Using computers to view the earth
      • Studying satellite data
      • Water Resources
      • Natural Resources
      • Volcanoes
      • Earthquakes
      • Global Climate Changes
