2008 IMPACT Evaluation Report
The IMPACT SEMINAR is a year-long program designed to increase participants' effectiveness by developing new ways of integrating teaching, research, and service for a coherent career, and building leadership skills. The year begins with a week-long intensive seminar during which participants write personal career plans. Monthly meetings throughout the year focus on effective research and grant-writing strategies; balancing research, teaching, and service; developing effective communication for leadership; and achieving the career goals in participants' personal plans. IMPACT builds communities that reach across gender and faculty ranks to enhance connections between teaching and research and works to build networks of leaders at all faculty levels. Since 2003, 30 faculty have participated.
The following are benefits and trends specifically mentioned by participants:
- Enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration, colleagueship
- Offered a sense of connection to others on campus
- Introduced ways to identify new leadership roles in department, college, and university
- Provided support overcoming barriers to success
Goals of the IMPACT Seminar Series:
- Increase the effectiveness of faculty through new ways of integrating teaching, research, and service
- Build communities of faculty across ranks committed to reflection on the relationship of teaching and research
- Create networks for leadership between faculty at all ranks
