Dr. Ezra Cappell is the current Director of the Inter-American Jewish Studies program at the University of Texas at El Paso. Dr. Cappell’s educational career began when he received his Bachelors of Arts in English from Queens College New York. He later pursued a Masters Degree in Creative Writing from The City College New York. Determined to further his development he then pursued a second Masters Degree in Philosophy from New York University, quickly followed by a Ph. D. in English and American Literature.
Dr. Cappell currently teaches at the University of Texas at El Paso in subjects pertaining to Jewish American culture, literature, and the Holocaust. While simultaneously teaching, he oversees the Inter-American Jewish Studies minor offered to undergraduates through the College of Liberal Arts. Apart from his academic career, Dr. Cappell currently writes and publishes texts relating to 20th Century and Contemporary Jewish Literature, his most well known, critically acclaimed text being American Talmud: The Cultural Work of Jewish American Fiction. Apart from being recognized for his publications, Dr. Cappell is also the recipient of the UT Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award and is currently a Fellow at the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning.
