Dr. Theodore V. Cooper, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at UTEP, is the Principal Investigator of A Smoke Free Paso del Norte Organizing Agency Grant. The goals for the grant include:

Youth prevention of initiation. Cessation for pregnant women and protection of newborns from secondhand smoke.

Smoking cessation for youth, young adults, and adults. Media and counter marketing campaigns with emphasis on youth and the quit line.

Clean indoor air ordinance/policy protection and promotion. Education related to tobacco control laws.

Tobacco control networks and trainings/capacity building.

Prevention and cessation efforts directed at irregular smokers.

Expansion into Cd. Juárez. Evaluation and technical assistance.
Via the current organizing agency Smoke Free Paso del Norte initiative grant, Dr. Cooper seeks to help maintain and expand the impact the Paso del Norte Health Foundation has had on smoking prevalence and policy in the border region.
