Checklist for Newly Admitted Students    

  1. Admission letter has been received. (For international students, I-20 has also been received)
  2. International students – obtained visa.
  3. Viewed Graduate School’s virtual orientation site for information.
  4. Travel plans have been made.
  5. Housing has been arranged.(Please see links "El Paso Times" and "Prospector" for housing)
  6. Contact has been made with advisor.
   
After Arrival    

  1. Make banking arrangements.
  2. Apply for social security number for employment.
  3. Secure housing and pay necessary deposits.
  4. International students – Take I-20 to Office of International Programs. Attend orientation session for international students.
  5. Meet with advisor for information concerning enrollment, departmental orientation sessions, and program requirements.
  6. Attend orientation session sponsored by the Graduate School for all new graduate students.
  7. Attend orientation session sponsored by the Graduate School for all new graduate teaching assistants, graduate research assistants, and graduate assistants.
  8. Enroll in classes after consultation with advisor.
  9. Pay tuition and fees.
  10. Obtain student identification card.
  11. Obtain parking permit (if needed).
  12. Set up computer account.
  13. Purchase books and supplies.
  14. Attend departmental orientation sessions, if applicable.
  15. Attend first class!
