Study Aims. TCD had two aims. First, this study proposed the examination over an extended period of time (7 consecutive days) of self-monitored smoking in a light smoking college population to achieve a better understanding of the factors associated with light smoking. Second, given the possibility that light smokers are less aware of their smoking and the potential health effects of their smoking, this study aimed to examine whether furthering awareness of one’s personal smoking via a smoking record is a technique substantial enough to produce contemplation toward quitting smoking (i.e., a change in motivation to quit smoking). Should further awareness of smoking change motivation to quit, providing a TCD and CO feedback to light smokers may then represent a reasonable brief intervention strategy.
