Objectives
The ESOL program offered by the Department of Languages and Linguistics has two major objectives:
  1. To offer English language courses that reflect current advances in second language teaching and learning and that take students' needs and socio-cultural background into consideration.
  2. To help non-English speaking students acquire the English language skills necessary to succeed in university courses and their academic life at UTEP.

The program focuses on enhancing students' grammatical knowledge as well as their reading and writing skills in English. In addition, students are exposed to academic and research conventions that are relevant to college level work.
