Frontera Pride Film Festival
Women's Studies has teamed up with a community-based committee of arts enthusiasts to create the very first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Film Festival the borderland has seen. The festival includes 27 different films from the U.S.A., Canada, Germany, Israel, Singapore, Australia and Italy. A gala celebration with special Hollywood personas including actors, directors and producers is scheduled for the Camino Real Hotel. Women's Studies is offering the 2009 first Summer Session course "Queer Cinema" in conjunction with this festival, and again in the Fall 2009 semester.

YWCA Centennial Celebration
Women's Studies has teamed up with the El Paso YWCA for their centennial celebration. Part of the
celebration includes the use of film to document women's oral history. If you are interested in helping, see Dr.
Risch in the WS office, Liberal arts room 233 or contact the YWCA for mor information. |
Women's Studies Major
Over the past year, enrollment for Women's Studies has increased well over 100%! This has prompted the
department to begin the process of creating UTEP's first Women's Studies major. Though it is still not available,
Women's Studies hopes to be able to offer it soon. |
The Vagina Monologues
FMLA in coordination with UTEP Women's Studies works to produce a student run production of The Vagina
Monologues. The performance usually takes place in February or March, but preproduction beings during the
fall semester. |
