In the History Department we view the education of future teachers as a vital part of our mission. Over half of our undergraduate students are preparing to teach in the
secondary schools and all of the students who have
completed our doctoral program are now teaching at universities.
Our bachelor’s degree program prepares students to become certified secondary school teachers of history or social studies. Our graduate programs help prepare students to teach at the secondary, college, and university levels.
The department's efforts to support current secondary school teachers are coordinated by the Center for History Teaching & Learning.
The School of Education administers social studies training programs for EC-4, grades 4-8, and alternative certification.
