StopLite3 Minimize

The aim of this program is to offer a brief tobacco cessation program that will be available to community light smokers. Based both theoretically and empirically, the brief intervention will include both cognitive and behavioral processes targeting light smokers at all levels of motivation. Cognitive processes such as motivational enhancement as to the costs and benefits of smoking and quitting and “tipping the scales” of motivators are designed to assist smokers with lower levels of motivation to increase readiness to quit smoking. Action oriented processes such as carbon monoxide feedback and education as to how to manage triggers specific to light smokers are designed to help those with higher levels of motivation to make a quit attempt. The primary goal of this program is to assess the efficacy of the StopLite intervention in a community sample and ultimately to reduce tobacco prevalence in the border region.
