Early Registration Policy

 

 

·        The Academic Advising Center (AAC) staff and CircLES advisors may not register students in their designated populations (http://academics.utep.edu/Default.aspx?alias =academics. utep.edu/advisingcenter) before their priority registration time for each semester.  

 

·        The AAC staff and CircLES advisors may assist students with course selection and teach students to use Goldmine for registration processes.

 

·        The AAC staff and CircLES advisors may assist students in AAC and CircLES populations with registration any time after their priority registration has commenced.

 

·        The following exceptions are approved and students may be assisted with registration at any point in the registration process without prior approval from the appropriate Dean’s Office:

 

o       German Abitur Program - The German Ministries of Education have approved a 60-hour academic curriculum which is considered to be equivalent to completion of the Abitur diploma. Students who complete this curriculum may be considered for admission to German universities when they return home.  The German Abitur Program (GAP) major is only available to German military dependents whose families are stationed at Ft. Bliss, but any German student may follow the curriculum and request advising during regular advising periods.

 

o       Military Deployment – Students who are active military duty and must register early for courses.

 

o       Program-Specific Learning Communities and Program-Specific Courses – Students who wish to or are required to register in program specific Learning Communities.  Examples are:  Living-Learning LC, SSSP LC, Pre-Law LC, Health Related Professions LC, Pre-Education LC, Circles LC.  Also, students who are required to register for program-specific courses, such as standalone English sections reserved for CircLES students.

 

o       Special populations – Students with who are considered “at-risk” or in structured support programs. 


Examples are:

§         CAMP - College Assistance Migrant program students are provided mentoring and various other support services for success (http://studentaffairs.utep.edu/camp)

§         START students - Provisional admits—see link above

§         Honors Program - Students who have been a Program Member for one semester and are registering for an Honors course or have completed 12 Honors credit hours qualify to register in-person the first day of registration

§         Junior Scholars - Junior Scholars get a head start on their university education by earning college credit and becoming familiar with campus life. Some Junior Scholars want to learn more about subjects not offered at their high school, while others want to increase their chance for being accepted at a university of their choice.

§         Probation - Students who have been reinstated and need to replace a course to improve GPA

§         UTCAP - Some Texas freshman applicants who are not admitted to UT Austin are offered participation in the Coordinated Admission Program (CAP).  CAP students begin their undergraduate studies at one of seven participating UT System universities in Texas. Those who successfully complete the Coordinated Admission Program during the 2008-2009 academic year will receive guaranteed admission to UT Austin for the fall 2009 semester. 

 

·       Students are encouraged to explore the convenient online registration options available through Goldmine and seek assistance from Enrollment Resources Center or their advisor if they encounter registration difficulties.

·       Students will only be assisted with registration after their priority registration has commenced.
