VMware will not “Power On” an instance of a virtual machine

 

1) If you are running Vista and you get the error “the VMware Authorization Service is not running” when trying to power on an instance.

See the image below.

 

 

2) Press + R and type services.msc and press ENTER

3) The Services screen will appear, see below, and then scroll until you see “VMware Authorization Service” the status should show

as Started.  If not attempt to start.

 

 

4) If upon starting the service you get the an error screen as seen below.  Then you must add __vmware_user__ account to the

administrators group.

 


5) Click "Start”, and the right click “Computer” and select “Manage”.  Once you click continue “User Access Control” the

Computer Management window will appear.

6) Expand the view on Local Users and Groups, and select __vmware_users__ under the “Users Folder”, see the window below.

 

7) Open the __vmware_user__ Properties, select the tab “Member Of”

8) Click Add button and the “administrators” group to the account. 

9) Click on “Check Names” to make sure the group is type correctly; this will change to include the name of your machine follow

by the administrators group.

10) Click Ok

 

11) Click Apply.

12) Repeat steps 2 & 3 and restart the service, you should now see the service running.
