Online MFA Thesis Guidelines

Online MFA Students nearing the end of their degrees may download these MFA Thesis Guidelines from our on-campus program, and follow these instructions for writing their thesis proposals, requesting their thesis advisors and arranging their thesis defenses and graduation.

Please note the following changes to these guidelines for our Online MFA students:

  1. You may request two readers from the faculty of the MFA program rather than an outside reader, for a total of three thesis committee members, including your director.

  2. Your thesis defense will occur through an online teleconference using Elluminate Live (http://www.elluminate.com/products/live/index.jsp).  All you will need is a webcam and microphone.

  3. To set up an online thesis defense, please contact John Fahey (jfahey@utep.edu), and he will help you set up your computer and an Audio/Visual conference room for your defense.  Please contact him early in the semester of Thesis II to give him plenty of time to make arrangements for your defense.  It’s your responsibility to schedule the time, date and room that all three members of your thesis committee can meet.

  4. Click on these links for the Application for Graduate Degrees, Thesis and Dissertation Guidelines, Thesis and Dissertation Formatting Guidelines, and other Graduation Forms, or go to http://academics.utep.edu/Default.aspx?tabid=45278 for more information.
Be sure to meet all your Graduate School deadlines for graduation.

If you have other questions about your thesis or graduation requirements, please contact the Graduate School.
