UTEP Women’s Studies Public Relations Internship
I. Objectives/ Learning Outcomes
Objective: To apply interpersonal, organizational and professional communication theory and skills in the Women’s Studies Program in a proficient and positive manner in order to influence, and foster social change.
Learning Outcomes:
· To gain experience in promotion of the Women’s Studies Program and special events.
· To implement promotional materials in all endeavors for the program such as posters, memos, newsletter, press releases, public service announcements, etc.
· To aid and learn about the basic theories and principles of fundraising and coordinating special events.
· To collaborate with the immediate supervisor and/or director in identifying specific goals and objectives for the program.
· To learn about and practice professional etiquette and expectations.
· To gain a positive learning experience in the field of Women’s Studies and public relations, identify with the program, and help aid in all of its objectives.
II. Description:
Public Relations Interns will assist Women’s Studies Program Director in all promotional endeavors to reach all goals and objectives outlined for the program throughout the semester. These will include a variety of projects, events, and meetings generating new goals, objectives, and forms of evaluation; collaborating creatively in order to form new ideas, and theories that represent the Women’s Studies Program ideals, and beliefs.
III. Assignments & Evaluation Criteria, Including Timeline:
· Communicate attentively with director on all projects and assignments.
· Attend weekly staff meeting with supervisor and/or director.
· Come prepared to weekly staffing with questions and hard copies of completed tasks.
· Submit a weekly report with a summary of all work done and a time sheet.
· Communicate as needed via in person visits, telephone or email with supervisor or director when assistance is needed to complete tasks.
· Keep all records including: copies of time sheets, meeting agenda, tasks completed, and samples of work in a three ring binder to be graded at the end of the semester.
· A semester grade will be given upon evaluation of continued work ethic, a complete portfolio of all work compiled throughout the semester, and a final reflection essay.
