Center for Innovation in Nursing Education and Career Advancement (CINECA)

Mission
The Center for Innovation in Nursing Education and Career Advancement (CINECA) seeks to transform teaching and learning at UTEPSON into a paradigm that is flexible, student-centered, and evidence-based and meets the complex needs of the current and future technology-driven health care delivery systems. The CINECA advisory board includes participants from throughout Texas.
Administratively, the Center for Innovation in Nursing Education and Career Advancement is within the School of Nursing, and reports to the Office of the Dean. Dr. Diane Monsivais is the current director. She can be contacted at dimonsivais@utep.edu or by phone at 915.747.8209
Our 2008 Activities

Held EBP Conferences April 12, 2008 at Howard College in Big Spring (50 attendees) and November 22, 2008 at UTEP (52 attendees).

Held Community Advisory meetings Spring and Fall

Held “EBP into the Curriculum” seminars in October, November, and December

Resubmitted HRSA grant in November
Rural Health Projects (Laurie Harris):

Started EBP Council at Midland Memorial Hospital in conjunction with Rebekah Powers

Worked with Kathy Degenstein-Gartman, CNO at Big Bend Regional Med Center in Alpine, on “TED stocking” EBP project

Consulted on palliative care project at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Big Spring
Our Goals for 2009

Continue monthly seminars to facilitate evidence based practice integration across the curriculum

Continue development and implementation of orientation modules for new online and onsite faculty [In collaboration with ISS]

Administer “Technology” Survey to SON faculty to gather baseline data about level of competency and to determine future educational offerings

Host NLN Nurse Educator Certification Exam prep course at UTEP on April 18, 2009. Have everyone on our faculty who is eligible to attend go to the course and follow up by taking the certification exam

Begin groundwork for application of development of NLN Center of Excellence

Continue community advisory board meetings every 3-6 months
