- *Elluminate for Students

Want to get up to speed with Elluminate Live? This web conferencing learning suite can help you "meet" with instructors, advisers and group members in a collaborative space... and even has the capability to record a class lecture or meeting with your own notes incorporated for playback!

- *How to be a successful online learner

Online courses are becoming more convenient and popular. With this in mind, it is very important that the online student possess unique qualities in order to become a successful online learner. Learn useful tips on how to effectively participate in discussion boards using Netiquette; use the technology properly; complete assignments on time; and participate in virtual groups.

- Blogs and Wikis

Ready to implement Web 2.0 tools in your courses? Wikis and Blogs are the perfect tools to share information regarding your courses and the perfect opportunity for students to learn from each other. This 20 minute session will initiate you on how to apply different learning tools and have the opportunity to network with different students’ ideas and many other online functions.

- Copyright & Digital Rights Management

Today’s dissemination of information and resources by instructors and students in the classroom is getting serious attention from publishers and other institutions working closely with copyright law. Digital distribution, in particular, is receiving special importance due to easy sharing capabilities students have through the use of the Internet, affecting organizations that profit from royalties or fees derived from the publishing process. Join us for an informative and collaborative discussion about this critical issue.

- Elluminate for Faculty

You need to Elluminate your life!

Tired of on-campus meetings taking too much time from your schedule because of transit issues? Would you like to hold office hours from home? Do you need an additional means of connecting with your online and blended-learning students, a "creative workspace" for your students to collaborate, or an efficient tool for providing tutoring?

Join us to learn how UTEP faculty are maximizing virtual meetings using Elluminate Learning Suite, provided at no extra cost for all UTEP faculty, staff and students. For more information: http://academics.utep.edu/Default.aspx?tabid=56616

- How to put your Course Online

Frustrated with the limitations of a classroom and wishful thinking about conveniences of teaching online…from your home or office? Has demand for more hands-on activities—or perhaps lack of thoughtful discussion by students—in class caused you to wonder if there is another way to engage your students and maximize time investments for both yourself and your students? Maybe online teaching is for you! Join this session to get the basics about how to begin planning your online course, and just what the development process entails!

- iMovie

- Creating Downloadable MP3’s

Add zest to your lectures! Deliver lectures that are more appealing for multiple learning style audiences by adding engaging audio clips with interesting tidbits or “possible quiz” material. Score points by delivering audio-lectures outside of class meetings and maintaining a resource area for students who missed class. If you are looking for flexibility for both you and your students, go to the head of the class! Create downloadable MP3 files using free software and affordable equipment with ease at home or at your office. Offering access to your MP3’s to students through UTEP MySpace, Coursemine, or other delivery methods can bring the world into your classroom… while taking your classroom to the world!

- iPeer

Would you like to track individual contributions of team members based on peer evaluations, and even automate the feedback process? iPeer is an application for developing and delivering rubric-based peer evaluations. It facilitates team based learning by managing evaluations, team member submissions, and email reminders to team members, using custom rubrics or simple evaluations. Join us to learn how to incorporate this into your course!

- Raptivity

Using Raptivity, you can create learning interactions that appeal to different learning styles, incorporate immediate feedback to learners, and promote increased interaction between learners and course content for both online and classroom teaching. These learning interactions can be customized and integrated with eLearning tools such as Flash, Captivate, PowerPoint, etc. as well as deployed as SCORM-trackable interactions in Blackboard and other Learning Management Systems.

- Second Life

Create your own Virtual Simulation!
With emerging technologies such as Second Life, you have the power to create virtual worlds, interactive simulations and teaching environments all in 3D.

In just a few minutes, you can join Second Life, create your own avatar, and start collaborating with people around the world without ever leaving your desk. And, here's the best part. It's free.

Here at ISS we work with faculty to design, create and customize virtual simulations in Second Life for a wide variety of classes. Come join us as we demonstrate the use of virtual reality in education.

- Synchronous Learning Tools - Elluminate, Wimba

Worried about students who just don’t seem to connect, as if your class is the last thing on their mind? Do you wish there were ways to make your office hours more productive, and accessible to all? Are you teaching online and feeling that some students just need a more personal connection, or that a real-time lecture session would be helpful to all? Attend this session for an overview of how to use synchronous communication tools such as Elluminate and Wimba for more effective teaching. (Note: This session is a discussion about integrating instructional technology in the teaching process; it does not cover the technical how-to for using the tools. Please attend the Elluminate session for how-to basics.)

- TurnItIn

Help your students become better writers and researchers with a tool that helps prevent plagiarism. Copy & paste keys have become increasingly used to compose an essay or paper for class assignments and it becomes difficult for faculty to vet every text, especially in larger classes. This 20 minute session will introduce you to the use of Turnitin, and how it helps you create a report showing how students are researching and using their references.

- Using Discussion Boards Effectively

Do you have the feeling that your students are bored with the discussion board activities, that they are “just posting to meet the requirements of the assigned task” instead of truly engaging in thoughtful discussion and building a learning community that they can reach out to for help and insightful discussion? Join us to discuss strategies for converting typical discussion activities into something more exciting! Learn how to structure your discussion boards to maximize your time investment, and help students utilize the discussion board potential as well!

- WYSIWYG Editor in Blackboard 8 (UTTC)

Learn the capabilities of What You See Is What You Get! A WYSIWYG editor makes it very simple to create formatted and appealing content in any text area of Blackboard, Blogs, and Wikis. You will learn how to use familiar tools including how to format text; insert images and links; spell check; attach documents; and to copy/paste text from Microsoft Word while retaining its formatting.
