University Honors Program

UHP's Mission Statement

The University Honors Program (UHP) is dedicated to providing guidance and support for academic success, personal and professional growth and leadership development to honors students. The Program encourages further enrichment through research, global citizenship, internship exploration, scholarships, service and active participation in student organizations. UHP facilitates the personal growth and development of honors students throughout their collegiate experience by promoting self-responsibility, initiative and lifelong learning.

Current Students

Students with a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA are eligible to apply to the program.

Transfer Students

Students who transfer to UTEP and who were Honors Program/College members in good standing at their previous institution are eligible to apply.

Entering Students

Freshmen with qualifying SAT/ACT scores, or have graduated top ten percent in their high school class are invited to apply.

Transfer Credit

To any transfer Honors credits from other institutions, a minimum of 50% Honors credit is required to earn UHP Honors recognition.

Honors Courses

Honors sections offer students a richer, more intense and more challenging academic experience.

Active Participation

University Honors Program participants must complete a minimum of one Honors course per semester and maintain a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA.

UTEP Enrichment Opportunities

Study Abroad

The Study Abroad Office provides students with the opportunity to enhance their educational experience and gain experience in any number of international study programs.

Campus Office of Undergraduate Research Initiatives

COURI seeks to enrich the undergraduate experience of students by facilitating, enhancing and showcasing their research training.

College of Science

Center for Civic Engagement

The CCE provides community based teaching and learning opportunities to students and faculty that are built into the curriculum, to enhance student education, promote civic engagement, and actively improve the community of El Paso.
