Freshman Students

Congratulations on your acceptance to UTEP! Now that you have been admitted it’s time to prepare for your orientation experience!
UTEP Orientation is required and free to all new students. Orientation is designed to meet your needs and is essential to your transition to becoming a UTEP Miner. Upon registering for a session, a confirmation will be sent to your preferred email address with additional details on parking, location, and items to prepare.
Before you can register to attend New Student Orientation, you must:

1. Be admitted to UTEPRead More

New Student Orientation is for New Students admitted to UTEP.
To check your admissions status, contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 915-747-5890 or futureminer@utep.edu.

2. Submit official scores for placement examsRead More

The advising and course registration component during New Student Orientation requires a complete set of placement scores. Contact the Office of Student Assessment and Testing to see what exams might be needed before attending New Student Orientation at 915-747-5009.

3. Submit official transcripts for dual-credit programRead More

Students who completed dual-credit courses while attending high school must request for an OFFICIAL transcript to be sent directly from the institution to the Office of Admissions. If currently enrolled in dual-credit courses then an updated OFFICIAL transcript must be requested after grades are posted.

4. Provide evidence of immunization against Bacterial Meningitis.Read More

This requirement is only for students under 22 years of age. Submit your documentation prior to attending your scheduled orientation. Please visit www.utep.edu/sb1107 for more information.

Preparing for Orientation

At orientation you will connect with your advisor and register for classes. Follow current students to see what being a Miner is all about. Learn about your major and the opportunities available to you as an undergraduate. Discover student services and resources that UTEP has to share with you. And uncover UTEP opportunities, services, and programs that will benefit you as a student leader and your future career path. 

Need somewhere to stay during orientation?

If you need somewhere to stay during your orientation, please contact Jewell Palmer-Rosales, Property Manager for Student Housing, at (915) 747-5903 for rates and availability. All request must be made at least two weeks prior to your orientation session.  

Items you need to bring with you during your orientation session:
• Writing utensils 
• Photo ID
• Copy of your credit evaluation or latest transcript for your reference during advising and registration if you have taken dual credit courses
• A laptop or tablet to learn more about navigating through My.UTEP.edu (highly recommended if you have one)
• Evidence of immunization against Bacterial Meningitis (If applicable)
• Money for snacks and lunch (Meal combos range from $6 - $8)
• Comfortable clothing and shoes (We will be walking all around campus!)
• Bottled water (suggested)
• Sunscreen (suggested)
• Umbrella (suggested)
