In response to the challenge posed by the globalization trend of U.S. manufacturing industry, the project "Forging Global Supply Chain Management into Engineering Education" is designed to integrate international supply chain management (SCM) courses using an information technology-based, real-world problem-solving-focused educational strategy into the engineering curriculum.
A holistic educational approach, which combines traditional classroom instruction, computer-assisted training, seminar series and industrial internship, will be carried out by the project. It strives to equip engineering students with SCM skills as well as an understanding and appreciation of international manufacturing concepts and issues, which are evidently lacking in the traditional engineering curriculum.
The project aims to build an educational consortium of supply chain management by inviting other academic institutes and as well as industrial partners to participate in the seminar series and internship program. Through this network, the project results can also be better disseminated.
