  • Master of Defense and Strategic Studies (DSS): The Master of Defense and Strategic Studies is designed to provide an in-depth, critical examination of the major defense and security challenges facing the United States now and in the future.  Particular attention will be placed on the development of strategy, both in theory and practice, to address defense-related problems. Offered in a distance-learning/online format, this will be a distinctive degree tailored to improving the competence of military and civilian personnel engaged in strategic planning, the inter-agency process, military operations, diplomacy, budgeting, legislative affairs, defense program management, research and development, and a myriad of other staff activities and specialties.  More information about this program is available here.  NOTE: THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED ONLY IN THE DISTANCE LEARNING/ONLINE FORMAT.
  • Master of Science and Graduate Certificate in Intelligence and National Security Studies (INSS): The Master of Science in Intelligence and National Security Studies and the Graduate Certificate in Intelligence and National Security Studies (INSS) provide a highly-rigorous interdisciplinary graduate program intended for students seeking employment or career advancement in the United States Intelligence Community (IC). The INSS graduate program is also suitable for students interested in security-related jobs in the private sector or with applied research institutions (think tanks). The INSS graduate program is also ideal preparation for advanced graduate study at the doctoral level in international relations, political science, public administration, public policy, history, or other closely related fields. The INSS graduate curriculum focuses on specific intelligence and security competencies that are delivered across the spectrum of academic disciplines at the University of Texas at El Paso. 
  • Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security: The Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security provides a challenging interdisciplinary graduate program intended for students seeking employment or career advancement within the Department of Homeland Security, as well as associated state and local agencies. The Graduate Certificate is also suitable for students interested in emergency response, counterterrorism, and security-related jobs in the private sector. The Graduate Certificate can be taken jointly with the Master of Science in Intelligence and National Security Studies. The Homeland Security curriculum focuses on competencies suitable for jobs throughout the Homeland Security Enterprise (HSE) including Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the U.S. Secret Service, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), among others.
  • Graduate Certificate in Open Source Intelligence:  The Graduate Certificate in Open Source Intelligence is designed to enhance open source skills and knowledge primarily for national security applications.  This certificate is the first of its kind in the nation at a public research university.  Particular attention is placed on collection strategies and structured analytical techniques to evaluate diverse types of publicly available information from historical and geographical data to imagery and social media sources.  This certificate is suitable for students pursuing careers in the U.S. Intelligence Community, Homeland Security Enterprise, federal, state, and local law enforcement, the armed forces, and within the defense industry.
