Gates, Grace Hooten (BA 1953, Journalism) is the author of the book, The Model City of the New South: Anniston, Alabama, 1872-1900 published by the University of Alabama Press. This volume, an engaging story of Anniston's early years, explores the town's first quarter century covering the booms and busts of its struggle for economic survival.
Oden, Rev.William A. Jr. (MA 1959; BA 1953, History) retired in 1977. He is a priest, historian, and artist residing in northern New Mexico. Father Oden was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of New Mexico in 1987. He continues to minister the Sacraments, paint and do research. During Summer 1996, he attended a Gregorian Music colloquium at Christendom College, Front Royal, VA.
Sanford, William R. II (BA 1957, English) won an Athletic scholarship at Texas Western College, where he played football, ran track and was Colonel ROTC Corps Commander. After receiving his degree, he coached high school football and track before entering the FBI in 1965. Special Agent Sanford served with the Bureau for 20 1/2 years before retiring in 1986. He continues to coach at the high school level and until recently competed in Master's level track. Sanford, who has three children and four grandchildren, resides in San Jose, CA.
Scott, Marta Hargett (BA 1950, Secondary Education) received "Best of Show" and "Best of Lot" awards for her Cowboy Coffee painting at the Las Cruces Arts and Crafts Society competition. Since retiring as a Special Ed teacher in 1991, she now has time for her painting. Scott is an active member of several civic and cultural organizations, including the California Pioneer Arts Association, The Dona Ana Arts Council, the Las Cruces Arts and Crafts Association, the Gwinnett Council for the Arts in Georgia, Black Range Artists, Delta Kappa Gamma, Willow Creek Landowners Association and St. Paul's Methodist Church.
Stueckler, Paul (MA 1954; BA 1954, Phys. Ed. & Administrative Education) retired after 40 years of coaching and moved to Lillian, Alabama. |
