    Geological Sciences remains a very strong department on campus, with many research and education initiatives. You will find descriptions of these new and unique initiatives on this web site, and hopefully you will see that we have not changed our approach one bit: we have kept our close and personal approach to student mentoring and networking, plus our field trips remain the highlight of department activities.
    This month, I would like to highlight two of our education and outreach programs: Pathways and METALS. Pathways is currently running a Summer Camp for High School students. The Summer Camp exposes student to the amazing world of the geological sciences. Our faculty make this camp a success by bringing in leading edge research into the classroom. METALS is taking High School students on an incredible field trip around the western U.S. at the end of this month. Please visit the web sites of these unique programs for more information.
