Lisa M. Borden received her Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, as well as a Specialty Certificate in Archival Administration. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural and Natural Resources Communication from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
Ms. Borden began her professional library career as a Manuscripts Cataloger in the C.L. Sonnichsen Special Collections Department of the UTEP Library. She went on to become Curator of the Jagdish Mehra Collection in the Special Collections and Archives Department of the University of Houston Libraries in Houston, Texas. She returned to UTEP in March 1999 as Engineering Reference Librarian in the Reference/Documents Department of the UTEP Library and assumed her current position there as Electronic Resources Librarian in September 2001.
Ms. Borden's current responsibilities include coordinating the testing, purchase, access, technical support, and publicity for new and existing electronic resources. She instructs both Library staff and UTEP patrons in their use through bibliographic instruction sessions as well as specialized training seminars. She provides both general and specialized consultation service at the Reference Desk and assists with the Library's web page development. As subject specialist for Women’s Studies and Communication, Ms. Borden coordinates collection development activities for those programs and works closely with their respective faculty and students.
