  Welcome to MAIS Homepage.

The Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) is designed for self-motivated graduate students who want to expand their knowledge in areas outside of their previous training or present profession. The MAIS welcomes students with undergraduate degrees from a number of different disciplines as well as professionals who need or want to obtain graduate-level training in a broad, interdisciplinary program.

The MAIS is an alternative response to other, more specialized MA programs. Students and professionals with degrees in the Liberal Arts, as well as in education, business, science, health, and in technology, will have the opportunity to broaden their expertise in a global context. Rather than gaining some level of expertise in a specific discipline, graduates of the MAIS gain expertise in the far more useful skills of interpretation and critical thinking across many disciplines.

MAIS students participate fully in creating their own degree requirements. Each student designs a plan of study consisting of:

    • two core seminars
    • nine courses offered by a variety of departments
    • a final project (total: 36 hours).

The MAIS is a graduate program for people of various backgrounds who have broad intellectual interests. Contact Dr. Ronald Weber at rweber@utep.edu to discuss your academic interests and to learn more about the program.
