Guidelines for Submissions

What sort of writing are you looking for?
Our intent is to publish excellent quality work, but at the same time, attract diverse and daring texts that experiment with form. We are striving to forge an identity as a cutting edge review that exists as space for diverse voices: writers who may be multilingual, cross-genre, or experimenting with narrative and poetic form. We also want to be a starting place for new writers.

What genres or topics do you consider?
We accept writing of all kinds, including (but not limited to) these genres: fiction, poetry, non-fiction, translations, flash fiction, memoirs, interviews, etc.

You are a bilingual review. What does that mean?
This means that we accept texts written in English, as well as texts written in Spanish. That doesn’t mean that you have to submit works in both languages, nor does it mean that we are going to translate your work. Just write in the language you prefer (English or Spanish), and submit. Texts are published in the language they were originally written in.

Do you accept submissions from all countries?
YES. We accept submissions from all countries, as long as they are written either on English or Spanish.

Can I submit art?
Yes! We encourage the submission of art (all mediums), photography, experimental texts, visual poetry, etc. Animations and audio files are, naturally, only considered for our online edition.

When is your reading period?
We accept submissions throughout the year. Our policy is to answer all submissions of reception in no more than two weeks. Any submissions received after a reception deadline will automatically be considered for the following edition.

What happens if you receive my submission after the deadline?
Submissions received after the deadline will automatically be rolled over for consideration in the next edition of the RGR.

When will I know if you accepted/rejected my submission?
We’ll inform you of the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts at most four weeks after the reception deadline.

Do you accept simultaneous submissions?
Yes, but please notify us immediately if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere.

Do you accept multiple submissions?
Only in different categories. Up to one submission per genre per reading period.

Do you pay for contributions?
Hopefully soon. Contributors will receive one copy of the magazine, S&H paid.

How should I submit?
EMAIL! Email! Send us your submissions as an attachment

What if I’m submitting art or photography? How should I do that?
Submit work as a JPEG file.
For electronic animation use Flash files.
For audio files use WAV or mp3.
Resolution should be 300 dpi.
For other types of file, please contact us via e-mail.

Can I submit to the online magazine?
“online exclusives.” If you wish to opt-out of being considered for the online edition, let us know.

How do you select texts?
All submissions will be read by the entire editorial team, and at least three guest readers. Selected texts will also be reviewed by a guest editor. We are looking for texts that excel in any or most of the following categories:

• Quality: Is the text well written?
• Theme: Does the text examine or portray themes in new or interesting ways?
• Voice: Does the text have a strong voice?
• Craft: Does the form work well with the theme?
• Innovation: Does the text explore new forms?
• Impact: Does the text catch and hold your attention?
• Consistency: Does the story work as a whole? Does it have weak parts?
• Million Dollar Question: Would you keep reading this story after the first page if you didn’t have to?
